Your Community Needs You
parkHIIT is a volunteer-led social enterprise that promotes the importance of resistance exercise. We get people outdoors and active every weekend of the year, regardless of the weather. We’re Dublin only at the moment but we’ll be nationwide soon!
For parkHIIT to grow and scale it has to be through leaders in local communities.
We upskilled and insured our first cohort of Community Leaders (regular parkHIIT attendees) in late 2021 and to say that was a success would be an understatement. Our Community Leaders have been doing an incredible job leading parkHIIT sessions across all our locations ever since and they are growing in confidence and competence every single week.
What do we need?
We want to grow our panel of parkHIIT Community Leaders. Could you be a Community Leader?
It is not as scary as it sounds. Actually, it's not scary at all. Let me paint a picture of what is expected of a parkHIIT Community Leader and how straightforward this involvement would be.
Who should volunteer?
Regular parkHIIT attendees that know the exercises fairly well. You do not need to be an expert or have a fitness qualification but you should be reasonably comfortable completing squats, lunges etc.
It would help if you're comfortable speaking in front of a group but that's not mandatory. In fact, this is something that could help grow your confidence in this area.
You should be able to commit to leading at least one workout per month.
If you've never been to parkHIIT this training is probably not for you. You can change that of course by taking part in a workout this weekend.
Expectations
We will provide you with a short training course. Upon successful completion of the training, you will be added to the umbrella parkHIIT insurance policy allowing you to lead any of the 5 pre-set parkHIIT workouts in one of our existing locations.
Once the training is completed, it would be great if Community Leaders could volunteer to lead at least one parkHIIT workout a month over the course of a year.
What's involved in leading a session?
Site inspection: review the workout area to make sure it is safe for a workout. Check for broken glass, dog poo etc.
Manage the workout time: 5 minute warm up, 20 minutes of intensity and 5 minute warm down.
Demonstrate the exercises. The demo does not have to be perfect and rest assured we will run through the techniques for each exercise as part of the training. All you're doing here is giving notice to attendees of what exercise they need to do next.
Remember that parkHIIT is not a class, it's a group exercise session where everyone is responsible for their own workout. You are not expected to answer questions about specific exercises or review techniques. In fact you are encouraged to take a full part in the workout so you don't have to miss out on that!
To summarise the parkHIIT Community Leader role:
- Inspect the site
- Manage the time
- Show what exercise is next
- Enjoy yourself!
What will the training consist of?
parkHIIT Ethos (online)
Safety Guidelines (online)
The 5 workouts (online and in-person)
Expected training duration: 4 to 6 hours
Cost of training: €0 (the training and insurance costs are covered by parkHIIT).
This is not a formal fitness qualification. Completion of this training will only insure you to lead the 5 parkHIIT workouts in specific locations, nothing else.
Why volunteer?
Why not?
You are supporting a social enterprise in your local neighborhood.
Not only are you promoting healthy behaviours to attendees but from your own point of view being a volunteer has lots of benefits. It can bring meaning and purpose to your life, while increasing your self-esteem and wellbeing. It also helps build relationships and has a real positive impact on your community.
Next Steps
We’re putting a list together for the training so if you're interested in getting involved then reply to this email and let me know.
Hopefully the above detail has answered a lot of your questions but you probably have more so drop me a line and let’s get chatting: brian@parkhiit.com
I appreciate you may have other commitments, you might be thinking this is not for you, you might simply be shy. I'd love to hear your thoughts on this regardless and there is no such thing as a stupid question so please send me an email and let's at least have a chat and we can take it from there.
Your community needs you!
Brian, parkHIIT CEO
P.S if you'd like to volunteer in some way but the idea of leading workouts doesn't appeal then let me know how you think you might be able to get involved. I'd love to hear from you.
P.P.S We also have fully qualified personal trainers on the team who volunteer to lead sessions and act as mentors to our Community Leaders. If this is you, could you get involved as a leader and mentor?
